We thought it would be good to introduce some of our small, friendly GIANT team members that make up sfG, so we’ve created a new blog series to share some insight.
In our first post, we talk to Product Manager, sfG Scope, Ben Hosie. Ben is a real team player and frequent man of the match! Find out what led him to join our team, what he focuses on and what he gets up to outside of work.
It’s usually a busy one with lots of communicating involved. The day typically starts with attending to plenty of emails from our software customers and potential software customers. The rest of the day is spent meeting with the team to discuss any products actions we have, meeting with and ‘demoing’ to new customers.
I had the opportunity to meet our MD, David, last year for a casual chat. At the time, sfG were just about to launch our new product – sfG Scope. David and Robert gave me the opportunity to join the fantastic team and I couldn’t say no.
At the same time, I had a chance to move into a more “corporate” role at another company, but I knew sfG was the type of company I wanted to be a part of. sfG are a local company that help a lot of businesses in the Highlands and Islands and have a real ambition to provide the best service in IT support and software, both here and further afield.
I moved to Inverness at the age of 4 and have lived here ever since. I was lucky enough to play football for Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC from the age of 8 to 18 and this has provided me the opportunity to secure a football scholarship in the US. I picked up a Physical Education and Healthcare degree in my time here.
However, when I came home I had no desire to use my new degree. So, I picked up a job in Capgemini. I quickly moved up the ladder, working as an Incident Manager and Major Incident Manager…and then my son decided to come along! So, this led to me joining an Inverness-based IT company where I spent 4 years as a Product Support Manager. This set me up nicely to move into my role at sfG.
Two things: Working with a fantastic team and getting to meet and work with new and interesting businesses.
Every day is a school day so I am always learning something new at sfG. I have enjoyed learning more about how to effectively manage current and new customers. It has also been great to see how a company that provides such a high-quality service prides itself on looking after its customers.
Our IT support team use sfG Scope heavily to keep track of customer orders, and the buying of IT hardware. When I make any purchases for the business, I enter all these into Scope. This ensures we, as a business, can keep track of money coming in and out of the business. These can all be invoiced straight from Scope if needed.
For me, Scope is extremely easy to use. From being able to more clearly see the flow of processes from quotes, to jobs, to stock management, to purchase orders and invoicing. It just makes everything easier.
Never stop learning and customer service shouldn’t just be a part of the business, it should be the entire business.
Or this hilarious if not unprofessional reference from my favourite TV show The Office: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFwUcEwD4l4 !
I enjoy spending time with my family – my fiancé, Cairan, and our children Theo (5) and Ella (8). We enjoy travelling (way back when we were allowed) and going out to trying new food. Self-proclaimed foodies!
I also enjoy playing football for Loch Ness FC. In case anyone missed it, our strips recently went viral, including appearance on BBC and Match of the Day.
